The rail line connecting Chongqing, Xinjiang to Belarus, Duisburg will be extended by 202 kilometres to Antwerp this year, reports Xinhua.
The extended route will shorten shipments from Chongqing to Belgium to 16 days. In addition, according to a customs clearance facilitation agreement signed between China and Belgium, shipments on this route will only be inspected once at the Belgium customs, eliminating the repetition of inspection at customs of other countries, which greatly enhances efficiency.
Meanwhile, Chongqing customs will start trial run of another international container railway connecting Chongqing, Kunming, Dali, Ruili south westward to ASEAN countries of Myanmar and Vietnam.
Chongqing customs has been undergoing rapid development during recent years to support its fast-growing foreign trade. Besides the two international rail routes, the city is also operating river-sea intermodal service to Shanghai and sea-rail intermodal service to Shenzhen.
