East China’s Jiangsu province has opened 12 shipping ports and four airports offering direct services to Taiwan, ranking the first nationwide, reports Xinhua.
These shipping ports that include Lianyungang, Nanjing, Zhenjiang, Changzhou, Taizhou, Yangzhou, Nantong, Taicang, Zhangjiagang, Changshu, Jiangyin and Dafeng have direct services to ports like Kaohsiung, Taichung, Keelung and Mailiao in Taiwan. There are five scheduled liner services a week together with a monthly frequency of 30 cargo sailings running between the two sides.
The four airports in Xuzhou, Wuxi, Yancheng and Nanjing in the province have direct links to Taipei, Taichung and Taitung in Taiwan. There are 84 cross-strait passenger flights flying every week. Passenger volume between the two sides stood at 320,000 in 2011.
