HONG KONG’s Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) is advising customers that from March 1 the current International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) mechanical seal standard (ISO/PAS 17712) will be replaced with a new standard, namely, ISO 17712:2010.
A statement from the company said that the new ISO standard makes two additional demands for mechanical seals, which are as follows:
Testing of each mechanical seal’s ability to indicate evidence of tampering must conform to the new standard; and a minimum 18mm diameter requirement for bolt seals must be met.
The shipping group said it “will fully cooperate with the authorities concerned to ensure compliance to the new ISO standard on the seal requirement is met”.
It added: “Customers who will be responsible for supplying and affixing high security seals on their containers are also reminded to ensure full compliance to the new ISO requirements.”
