Portland International Airport has recorded increases in total cargo volume and passenger numbers handled last year, with 213,964 tons of freight and mail passing through its gates, up 2.3 per cent compared with 2010.
Growth followed the launch of Asiana Cargo’s service to South Korea and beyond. The all-cargo service uses a Boeing 747 freighter to connect the airport to Asian cities, including Osaka, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Penang.
A report by Fox News said the Oregon airport welcomed 13.7 million passengers in 2011, an increase of 3.7 per cent compared with the previous year. The increase was attributed to expanded air service options at the airport for travellers.
Furthermore, Spirit Airlines commenced service at the airport last year, providing two daily flights to Las Vegas. Seasonal flight improvements included JetBlue Airways’ service to Boston, and Horizon Air’s routes to Billings and Missoula. JetBlue also boosted service to Long Beach, the report said.
